SmartFuel is Tokheim’s automatic vehicle identification (VIS) solution. It is an automated refuelling system that incorporates fuel authorisation based on vehicle identification. It has been designed for companies

operating their own fleet of commercial vehicles to help reduce fraud and overcome many of the limitations inherent in traditional data input technology.

How does it work?
  1. The nozzle is inserted in the fuel tank. The vehicle tag details are validated by DiaLOG – vehicle data, odometer and / or engine running time information is wirelessly transmitted during the authorisation process.
  2. Communication between the vehicle tag and the nozzle unit localises the transaction to that specific nozzle and only then can fuel be dispensed. The system controls fuel type and prevents any unauthorised fuelling from taking place.
  3. Once refuelling is complete the nozzle is returned to the pump. At this point all the relevant data has been exported from the vehicle into the DiaLOG fuel management system. There is no need to sign any paper because all refuelling details are automatically stored.

Reduce fraud and improve fuel management

SmartFuel requires “the right amount of the right type of fuel in the right tank”. There is no possibility of filling up another vehicle or a jerry can. Odometer readings can be cross-checked, helping to provide a more effective solution in allowing you to reduce fuel costs across your fleet.

Fuel Inlet Tag

The fuel inlet tag is placed at the fuel tank inlet. The RF nozzle communicates with the fuel inlet tag and fuelling commences. If the two lose signal contact through removal of the nozzle from the vehicle, the delivery stops immediately – even if the operator continues to press the nozzle trigger.

Vehicle tag

The vehicle tag is a contactless microprocessor that is installed in the vehicle. It identifies the vehicle to the Fuel Management System, providing vehicle data, fuel type, plus engine hour meter readings. Odometer/mileage readings are transmitted automatically by the vehicle tag to the site controller at the time of refuelling.

Radio Frequency Unit (RFN)

The RFN is a wireless device that slips over the nozzle and identifies the nozzle to the system. It is a robust system that is easy to install and does not require any adaptations to the nozzle. Only when the correct fuel nozzle is inserted in the fuel tank inlet will the authorisation be approved and fuel dispensed into the vehicle.

Driver Tags

Tokheim’s hand-held driver tag is a “microprocessor-based Smart Card” that the fleet driver can present at the pump for driver identification. It can only be used in conjunction with the vehicle tag. The Driver Tag does not contain any method of payment and is for driver identification only; offering an enhanced level of security.
